SEMINAR: SMARTer® Solutions for Next-Gen Sequencing

Presenter: Yi Cheng Chia (Clontech Laboratories, Inc.)

Lunch provided!

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) has increased our understanding of biological phenomena and human disease by enabling highly sensitive transcriptome analysis across a large dynamic range of RNA expression levels. As NGS applications continue to grow, so do the powerful tools in the suite of Clontech® kits for transcriptome analysis. Patented SMART® technology in these kits utilizes the template-switching activity of reverse transcriptase to enable researchers to analyze their most challenging samples, such as single cells, low-input RNA, noncoding RNA, and RNA from degraded samples. In particular, single-cell RNA-seq is one of the fastest-growing applications of NGS. The SMARTer Ultra™ Low mRNAseq family of products, featuring a highly sensitive, dT-primed design, is the gold standard for single-cell analysis. The newest generation of ultralow input/single-cell mRNA-seq kits takes SMART technology to the next level by incorporating and improving upon the SMART-Seq™2 method and locked nucleic acid (LNA) technology. Additional innovations in SMART technology have produced a ligation-free method for generating ChIP (chromatin immunoprecipitation) sequencing libraries. This seminar will take you on a tour of these new technologies and ongoing research on a variety of NGS applications including single-cell RNA-seq.
