Dear All,

 

The speaker for the next IIGB/CEPCEB seminar series on Fri, October 10,

2014 is Robert Gentleman. As most of you know, he is one of the two main originators of the R language, founder and former director of the Bioconductor project, and currently Senior Director of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology at Genentech/Roche. The time, title and abstract of his seminar presentation are given below.

 

Also: to give students and postdocs an opportunity to interact with our famous visitor, there will be a Q&A session from 2-2:45pm (see below).

Seminar Title: Genome Scale Data Analysis

 

Seminar Abstract

I will discuss some of the many genome scale data analysis problems, such as variant calling and genotyping and isoform identification that we are working on in my group. I will discuss the statistical approaches used, as well as the software development needs of addressing problems on this scale.

 

Q&A Session

This session will give students, postdocs and faculty the opportunity to interact with Dr. Gentleman and to discuss grand challenges in bioinformatics, big data analysis or other relevant topics.
